The Bucyrus City Board of Control approved a bid contract for a new Waste Water Treatment Plant blower Friday.

Waste Water Treatment Supervisor Terry Spiegel recommended Lone Star Blower. The Houston, Texas company submitted a $79,800 bid for a maximum 100 horsepower blower.

Spiegel told the Board he saw no difference in the specs and the availability of the blower from Lone Star Blower or its competitor, APG Neuros Inc., was the same. The advantage for the city, however, stemmed from the nearly $40,000 cheaper price tag.

“That’s good,” noted Service/Safety Director Jeff Wager, “we’ll save some money.”

The blower will have a one-year warranty that starts at the time of its delivery. It will be delivered in 10 to 14 weeks.

The blower is also expected to pay for itself after three years with its energy efficiency.

The Board of Control passed a motion to accept the Lone Star Blower bid.
