SENECA COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bucyrus City Law Director Brian Gernert was taken into custody by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday night under suspicion of driving under the influence. Gernert was brought to the county jail at 10:50 p.m.

This arrest comes after the Supreme Court of Ohio issued a two-year suspension with full stay for Gernert in May due to ethical breaches stemming from two prior DUI arrests and subsequent probation violations.

Gernert assumed the role of interim law director for Bucyrus in October 2021. Notably, his criminal convictions and breaches of professional conduct occurred prior to his election to the position in November 2023.

As of now, Gernert remains detained in the Seneca County Jail and is expected to appear in Municipal Court sometime Monday.
