The City of Galion opened bids for its Portland Way South street reconstruction project Thursday.
Two companies submitted bids for the project, which carried an engineer’s estimate of $1.3 million. Buckeye Excavating, located in Monroeville, submitted a bid of $1,496,302.35 for asphalt work and another bid of $1,422,008.10 for concrete work. Park Enterprise Construction of Marion submitted asphalt and concrete bids of $1,372,915.74 and $1,559,711.34, respectively.
The project will consist of work on Portland Way South from where the State stop their project south of Grove Avenue to the north side of the railroad tracks. The road will be torn out, removed, and reconstructed with new pavement, curb and gutters, drive approaches, intersections, and storm sewer crossings.
Bids were also opened later Thursday afternoon for the water lines that will be replaced as part of the project.
The Portland Way project will be funded primarily with the city’s cash reserves, the Galion City Council announced in an April meeting. So far, $365,000 of it has been financed as zero percent interest but the balance of the project, around $3.3 million, will be paid without additional loans.
