BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Kindness is taking center stage in Bucyrus this summer as the community comes together to support the local pool.
Despite a shaky start to the season with shortened hours of operation, the pool is now open daily, and what’s even better – admission has often been free, thanks to the overwhelming support from area businesses and residents who care about the children in the Bucyrus area.
The heartwarming movement of generosity kicked off last season with the Bucyrus City School District, using special funding to purchase pool passes for every student in the district. Building on this foundation, local resident Jennifer Allonas took the initiative to rally donations from citizens and businesses to ensure the pool could remain open for all to enjoy.

Allonas, who is serving as this year’s pool manager, not only focused on revamping the concession stand offerings but also worked for the city to add a window to allow easier access for park and splash pad visitors to get snacks and drinks.
As community spirit continued to grow, area businesses stepped up to sponsor the pool, with sponsorships of $500 a day enabling everyone to cool off during recent heatwaves, whether sponsored independently or by groups and individuals.
Kurt Fankhauser and his company Wavelinc, generously equipped the pool and park with security cameras directly wired into the police department, enhancing safety for all visitors. The Bucyrus Fire Department also made a valuable contribution by donating an AED device for first aid, further ensuring the well-being of pool-goers.
The outpouring of support doesn’t stop there, with donations pouring in ranging from pizza and snacks to even a clock for the pool area.
The ripple effect of this community-driven initiative has inspired neighboring communities to explore similar opportunities for sponsorship, spreading the spirit of giving beyond Bucyrus.
The success of this heartwarming endeavor is evident as the pool has reached its maximum capacity of 345 swimmers on several days, proving that when a community comes together, great things can be achieved.
