DAYTON — Galion’s Miranda Stone wasn’t completely satisfied, but she is a two-time All-Ohioan, nonetheless.
Stone’s 140-feet, 4-inch effort earned her third place in the girls discus throw Friday afternoon in the Division II OHSAA Track and Field Championships at Welcome Stadium.
“It’s definitely exciting to get All-Ohio again and place higher than I did last year, even in a different event,” Stone said. “But there were definitely a lot of missed opportunities throughout my high school career. Still an exciting way to go out.”
Morgan Hallett of Norton won with a throw of 152-feet, 2-inches.
Last spring Stone, who will attend Duke University this fall, took sixth in the shot put. Stone also was named an Academic All-Ohioan this week.
After a slow start and a 113-04 effort, she then threw a 131-09 and a 140-04 to qualify for the finals.
Stone said she only began taking track and field seriously the past couple of seasons. She said she is entering “a great program” at Duke with the women’s team having won two straight Atlantic Coast Conference championships.
She holds the school record in both throwing events — 41-feet, 11.25-inches in the shot put and 146-feet, 6-inches in the discus.
“She’s worked so hard over the last three, four years,” Galion track coach Ryan Scribner said.
Stone also dominated the Crawford County Meet, winning the shot put by a margin of nearly nine feet and the discus by 34 feet.
