BUCYRUS — The Bucyrus tennis team split two matches in the cold Wednesday afternoon.

In the first match, the Redmen fell to Mansfield Madison, 5-0.

Seth Price dropped the first singles match, the Rams’ C.J. Steffey, 6-0, 6-1. In second singles, Layla Ellis went down by the same score, 6-0, 6-1, to Mason Jacobus. Taylor Steffey swept Will Kuhn, 6-0, 6-0, in third singles.

In first doubles, Mason Eldridge and Will Kepple beat Bucyrus’ Aubrie Kimmel and Rica Palacios, 6-1, 6-1, while the second doubles team for the Redmen, Bella Stang and Damien Stapleton, fell to Madison’s Kate Brennstuhl and John Keough, 6-0, 6-0.

The Redmen kept moving to avoid frostbite in the second match and the result was their first win of the year, defeating Clear Fork, 4-1.

The Colts’ only point came in first singles. Cooper Brokea edges Seth Price, 7-5, 7-5.

Layla Ellis handled Dalton Baily, 6-0, 6-2, in second singles and Aubrie Kimmel topped Adam Wallis in third singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Clear Fork forfeited both doubles matches to give Bucyrus the win. The Redmen move to 1-2 on the young season.

Bucyrus returns to action on Monday, hosting Pleasant.
