BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) —The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is excited to announce its annual tree and plant sale, featuring a variety of native hardwood and evergreen seedling trees. This year, the sale will include new additions: 2-3 foot Sugar Maple and Redbud trees, as well as asparagus and raspberry plants.

Orders are being accepted until April 24, or until supplies last. With limited supply, customers are encouraged to place their orders today.

Planting trees offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Energy Efficiency: Trees properly placed near buildings can reduce air conditioning costs by up to 50%.
  • Weather Protection: They provide winter windbreaks and living snow fences, reducing fuel bills by as much as 30%.
  • Environmental Conservation: Trees along streams can reduce soil and chemical runoff from surrounding lawns and fields by as much as 60%.
  • Air Purification: An acre of trees can remove about 13 tons of dust and gases every year from the surrounding environment through photosynthesis.
  • Pollution Offset: More than 100,000 trees are needed to offset the pollution of one jet flying roundtrip from New York to Los Angeles.
  • Wildlife Habitat: Trees create new habitats and safe havens for local wildlife.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: They provide aesthetic landscaping for everyone to enjoy year-round.
