BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—David Holdcraft, a 30-year-old former resident of Bucyrus, appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday to face charges of child rape.

Holdcraft is currently serving a 24-year prison sentence at the Elkton Federal Prison in Lisbon, Ohio.

In May 2022, Holdcraft pleaded guilty to charges of receipt and distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and sexual exploitation of children.

The new charges against him involve two separate incidents of rape, both involving victims under the age of ten.

If convicted, Holdcraft could face two life sentences without the possibility of parole. He is also charged with gross sexual imposition, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

During the arraignment, Judge Sean Leuthold acknowledged the sensitive nature of the charges and urged everyone in the courtroom to remain composed. Attorney Howard Elliott was appointed to represent Holdcraft, and he entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Despite Holdcraft already being incarcerated, Assistant Prosecutor Dan Stanley requested a bond of $10,000,000. However, Judge Leuthold set the bond at $1,000,000 and ordered

Holdcraft to be held in the Crawford County Jail until the case’s conclusion.

Leuthold also issued a directive that no other county, state, or federal entity could remove Holdcraft from the jail without a written order from him.

A pretrial date will be scheduled within the next 30 days, and Crawford County Now will continue to provide updates on this ongoing case.
