MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) – A tense standoff in Mansfield ended tragically when a suspect, involved in an earlier shooting, was found deceased in a residence on S. Main St.
Officers were dispatched to 560 S. Main St. following reports of a shooting. Two victims were discovered at the scene, both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were immediately transported to a local hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
The suspect, having fled the initial scene on foot, was located two houses away at 572 S. Main St. The occupant of this house managed to escape when the suspect entered the residence without permission, armed with a firearm.
The suspect subsequently barricaded himself inside the residence, leading to the activation of the Allied Special Operations Response Team (ASORT). After a lengthy standoff, ASORT initiated procedures to enter the house.
Upon entering the residence, the suspect was found upstairs, deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Richland County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took possession of the deceased. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted.
Following the issuance of search warrants for both residences, the Mansfield Police Forensic Science Section processed the addresses.
The investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
