Raymond “Ray” Anthony Weithman Sr., 88, of Galion passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023 at home.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ray was born July 4, 1935 in Galion, he was the son of Carl D. and Margaret (Bogner) Weithman. He married the love of his life, Martha Mae “Marty” (Flannery) Weithman on September 6, 1958 and they enjoyed 65 years together.
Ray attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Galion High School in 1953. He graduated from the College of Engineering/ School of Architecture at The Ohio State University in 1959. He was President of Weithman Brothers Inc. retiring in 1998.
Ray was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion where he ushered for many years, was former president of church council and a Knights of Columbus 4thdegree. Ray enjoyed sailing and was a Commodore at Mohican Sailing Club for two terms. He was past president of the Mohican Valley Airstream Unit and traveled with Marty in their Airstream travel trailer visiting all 48 lower states, and spent many years wintering in Florida. Ray liked gardening, golfing, and was formerly president of Galion Country Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Kymberle Ann (Steven) Irwin of Ashland, Raymond A. Jr. (Janet) Weithman of Galion, Elizabeth Mae (Kevin) Holland of Huron and Joseph Carl (Rhonda) Weithman of Columbus; grandchildren, Jamie Ray Weithman, Kaleigh (Peter) Le, Robert Irwin, Michael (Leah) Irwin, Joshua Charles Weithman, Rachel Elizabeth Weithman and Samantha Marie Politz; great grandson, Nicholas Dean Irwin; great granddaughter, Alice Elizabeth Irwin, and brothers, Gary (Kathy) Weithman of Galion and Thomas (Marta) Weithman of Galion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Donatus Weithman, Carl “Buz” Weithman and Stephen Weithman.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 with a Vigil Service held at 6:00 p.m. officiated by Deacon Greg Kirk at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty Street, Galion with Father Paul Fahrbach officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Galion.
