MARION — There was no such thing as looking ahead to the playoffs for Galion in Week 10.
The Tigers finished the regular season with maybe their most complete game yet at Marion Harding.
Galion handed Harding a 34-0 loss in a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference finale.
Galion (7-3, 4-3 MOAC) got started quickly. Taking the ball downfield and punching it in first was Braxton Prosser with an 18-yard keeper. The Tigers scored on their next possession on a 2-yard run by Gabe Ivy. Galion capitalized on a Harding punt that went dead on their own 15-yard line.
“A banged-up quarterback but Gabe Ivy ran hard, and the O-line played well, then our defense played lights out,” Galion coach Matt Dick said of the win.
Ivy ran for 185 yards on 30 carries to lead the Tigers’ offense.
Harding (3-7, 2-5) fumbled the ball the following drive and the Tigers had another drive which Jimmy Hardy finished from a yard out.
Galion hit pay dirt again when Hardy rumbled 41 yards and delivered a stiff arm just before landing in the end zone. Harding was able to stop a Galion drive in the red zone just before the quarter thanks to a turnover.
The defense was ferocious for Galion all night. Linkon Tyrrell totaled three sacks and Hardy added a couple more.
“Some teams we just match up with a little bit better than others,” Dick explained. “I think our D-line played really, really well.”
The Tigers put the game away in the third quarter on fourth down and five. Sam Evans took off 42 yards for a touchdown on a fake punt to initiate the running clock for the remainder of the game.
Out of 362 total yards, 290 of came on the ground for Galion. The Tigers held Harding to just 101 yards and negative six yards rushing.
Harding’s Alex Stokes completed 12 of 23 passes for 107 yards and that was all the offense for the Presidents.
“I really like their quarterback. Man, can he throw it on a rope. He’s done some nice things; he’s been there a couple years now. I hope he’s a senior and we don’t have to see him again,” Dick joked.
Galion attempted just six passes, and both Prosser and Ayden Schmidt threw the ball three times. The Tigers were able to rest Prosser for more than a half heading into Week 11.
“We had a banged-up Braxton Prosser. It was good to see him get out early and be efficient with him,” Dick said.
Now, it’s a clean slate for the Tigers heading into the playoffs. Galion, No. 5 in Division IV, Region 14, will host No. 12 Oberlin Firelands (6-4) in the first round.
