The Bucyrus Kiwanis Club is gearing up for a garage sale that is shaping up to surpass last year’s event.

The Community Garage Sale will take place this Saturday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Crawford County Fairgrounds Expo building.

“I’m planning on a lot of people coming and a lot of people coming home with some treasures,” said Kiwanis member Doug Weisenauer. “So far it’s turning out to be bigger than last year.”

The garage sale has already seen an increase in vendors for the event and Weisenauer hopes to top last year’s estimated attendance record of 2,000 visitors.

Weisenauer agreed that it really was a community event: people who normally couldn’t have a garage sale are able to set one up at the fairgrounds while local Relay for Life teams and churches hold fundraisers.

“A lot of people in the community were glad to see that come back,” Weisenauer said. “It’s a way for people to just get out and make a little money their selves.”

The Bucyrus Kiwanis Club revived the event last year. Proceeds from vendor spaces and the Kiwanis’ own sale table will be used to support the club’s various charities such as Buckeye Girls State, Bucyrus Little League, the annual Fourth of July fireworks show, and the Santa Parade.
