The overhaul of the Bucyrus water system took another step Wednesday afternoon with the opening of bid packets for the water treatment plant and the water transmission mains and force main contracts.

Five bids were placed on the water treatment plant contract which was estimated to cost $25 million. The lowest bid came from Danis Industrial Construction of Miamisburg with bids of $22,374,000 and $21,869,000.

The water transmission mains contract was estimated at $3.6 million and received five bids as well. Underground Utilities Incorporated of Monroeville was the lowest bidder at $2,232,049. The force main will take water from town out to the water plant, and the water transmission mains will carry drinking water into the city of Bucyrus.

After the bid packet openings Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser seemed hopeful that residents and businesses within the city wouldn’t realize too large of a rate increase.

“Everything looks good, and came in under bid. Now we have to go over everything with a fine-tooth comb. If we can save money on construction and interest rates we might be able to eliminate future rate increases. That is what I am hoping,” Reser said.

Reser also noted that the earliest that the city can get the loans approved for the project is June 25.

The bids will be awarded within a week after the bid packets are finished being reviewed and calculated by the Bucyrus City Board of Control.
