If you happen to be at a Buckeye Central baseball game this season you may notice a pink heart with the initials J and R on the team’s ball caps, the symbol to honor one of the player’s mothers who was in an accident.
When Janine Roberts was hospitalized from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, the team rallied around Center Fielder Cody Roberts, and let the family know that she is in the team’s thoughts and prayers.
“We have a baseball family, and Cody is part of our family, and his mom is part of our baseball family,” Buckeye Central Head Coach Chad Jenson explained, “She’s recovering, but we want to remember her, and think about her every day when we’re playing. She’s in the hospital, and Cody’s family is with her. We always want to be thinking about her all of the time, and realize that there is stuff bigger than baseball.”
Buckeye Central will next play against Seneca East in Attica at 5 pm on Monday, April 6 in a game that was postponed on April 2 due to rain.
