MANSFIELD—The Richland County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, against William Carter, charging him with two counts of Murder, Felonious Assault, Having Weapons Under Disability, and Tampering with Evidence. This indictment is in connection to the recent homicide that occurred at 20 Dunbilt Court on April 30, 2023.
The successful outcome was the result of the diligent efforts made by Major Crimes Detective Larry Schacherer and the entire bureau. Detectives followed up on both self-generated leads and information from the public, which ultimately led to securing the indictment.
Presently, Mr. Carter is already incarcerated in the Summit County jail on unrelated charges. Once he is returned to Richland County, he will face the charges outlined in the indictment.
Law enforcement officials expressed their hope that this arrest would provide some relief to the victim’s family, as well as help alleviate the concerns of the community following a recent string of gun-related incidents. They kindly requested that the privacy of the victim’s family be respected during this difficult time.
The Major Crimes Division continues to work diligently on investigating the remaining homicides. Anyone with additional information related to these cases is urged to contact the Mansfield Police Tip Line at 419-522-7463.
