Galion Middle School teacher Rachel Gangwer was selected as the Ohio Lottery Teacher of the Month for February 2015. Gangwer teaches math to sixth grade students.
The educational recognition programs sponsored by the Ohio Lottery provide opportunities to recognize the outstanding classroom achievements of students and teachers. Gangwer’s nomination, and subsequent selection, was based on several of her strong characteristics.
“Rachel is a new addition to our school this year, and she is going above and beyond to improve our school,” Middle School Principal Jennifer Allerding said. “I am excited to have Rachel as part of our staff, and I know that our students are cared for and have an excellent teacher.”
Gangwer is active on several committees and does her job with a consistent smile on her face and with a positive attitude. In her classroom, students are actively engaged, participate in project-based activities and consistently meet high expectations.
“I was very honored to learn I was nominated by Mrs. Allerding,” Gangwer said. “I strive to do my best every day to make my class exciting and engaging for my students while we are still working hard to learn everything we can.”
For being recognized as a Teacher of the Month, Gangwer will receive an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise from the Ohio Lottery along with a gift card.
“Teachers have a tremendous impact on the students we care for in the Galion City School District,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “When teachers go the extra mile to help improve the lives of their students in and out of the classroom, recognition is warranted and, in Ms. Gangwer’s case, well deserved.”
