Duane Everett Rinehart, 90, formerly of rural Lexington died March 19, 2023 at Arbors of Mifflin. He was born September 12, 1932 in Troy Township, Morrow County, the son of Henry Ward and Viola M. (Marshall) Rinehart.

He is survived by a brother Danny L. (Linda) Rinehart of Ontario and one sister Marilyn M. Sipes of Galion. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald W. (Lois) Rinehart and Alvin E. (Margaret) Rinehart and brother-in-law, Ivan W. Sipes.

He graduated from Lexington High School in 1950.

Duane entered the United States Army on December 10, 1952 and entered Korea on July 6, 1953.  Duane was in the 505 Transit Truck Company as a truck mechanic and wrecker driver. He left Korea in October 1954 and arrived home in November. His Honorable Discharge was dated November 9, 1954.

In addition to farming, Duane shore sheep for many years as well as working at PPG in Crestline, working for North Bloomfield Township, Morrow County and Carter Machine in Galion.

One of his favorite pastimes, after he was in his 60’s, was snow skiing.

One trip that Duane especially enjoyed in 2014 was the Freedom Flight to Washington D.C. to tour the war monuments.

Duane held life memberships in the Robert L. Caster V.F.W. where he was the District Commander in 1979 and 1980, the AMVETS Post 87, the E.B. Rinehart American Legion Post 754 where he was District 6 Commander and the Korean War Veteran’s Association Chapter 136 where he held positions of President and Vice President.

In addition, he was a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie, an Honor Degree of the V.F.W. and of the Forty and Eight, an Honor Degree of the American Legion.

Duane served in the Color Guard since 1970 and served with the Morrow County Color Guard since the late 1990’s.  He served at so many military funerals, he lost count of how many. He also drove for the Morrow County Veterans Sevices for many years transporting veterans to medical appointments.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Vicky McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville with full Military honors.
