HOLMES TOWNSHIP — Dylon Robinson has plans for his senior baseball season at Wynford.
Robinson is looking forward to another successful, winning year for the Royals, who won the Northern 10 Athletic Conference a year ago.
But this season will not be the end of Robinson’s career on the diamond, as he has signed a letter of intent to play for he University of Northwest Ohio, located in Lima.
UNOH offers degrees related to the automotive industry, which is right up Robinson’s alley. He explained the nature of the degrees he will pursue there.
“The technical term high performance supervision,” Robinson explained. “So, it’s going to be a year of automotive, a year of high performance, and then I’m going to add on a year of hybrid electric vehicles along with two years of business.”
It’s the best of both worlds for Robinson — pursuing his dream career and continuing to play the sport that has been such a big part of his life.
“It’s the perfect academic program that I’m willing to want to do, and I get to continue the sport I’ve loved for many years,” he said.
Robinson noted that there were a couple of other colleges that contacted him about playing baseball, but it was only UNOH that he was truly interested in.
Robinson was able to play several different positions for coach Tom Smith last year, both infield and outfield.
Offensively, Robinson was second in the N10 with a .486 batting average, second in runs batted in with 36, second in doubles with nine, third in slugging percentage at .676 and scored 27 runs in 26 games. The Royals went 20-6 with a season-ending loss in the district semifinals.
The Racers of UNOH play in the 12-team Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, affiliated with the NAIA, mostly in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Still, Robinson’s focus for now is on his final year at Wynford.
Last year, we lost to Edison in the district (tournament) and that was pretty tough,” Robinson said. “This year, I’m looking forward to helping lead our team past district.
“Our ultimate goal is obviously to go to state this year, because we lost to Edison and they ended up in state,” he continued. “So, hopefully, (we) get that opportunity to play in the state this year and go out with a good experience.”
