UPPER SANDUSKY—The following joint statement reads:
“The Upper Sandusky Police Department, in cooperation with the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyandot County Major Crimes Unit, would like to provide an update in the investigation of the death of Keris Riebel that occurred on January 1st, 2023, at the Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky.
Bethel M. Bekele, the defendant charged in this matter, remains incarcerated with no bond. The indictment against defendant Bekele includes charges of Aggravated Murder and additional counts. That indictment is pending in the Wyandot County Court of Common Pleas.
The Wyandot County Clerk of Courts, and its website, provides the public with current information concerning the most recent filings and events scheduled in this matter.
With law enforcement nearly four weeks into its investigation of this homicide, and in an effort to keep the public informed, the agencies involved would like to reiterate and affirm certain facts that have already been made public.
First, there has been no evidence uncovered to indicate the defendant was acting in cooperation with any other person or organization. Further, there has been no evidence uncovered that demonstrates any connection, relationship, or previous ties, between the victim (Keris Riebel) and the defendant. The investigation has revealed the defendant was a customer at the Dollar Tree, where the victim was employed.
The agencies involved in this ongoing investigation continue to encourage the public to report and provide any information to law enforcement.”
