BUCYRUS—Former Bucyrus Attorney Adam Stone was facing contempt charges in the Marion County Common Pleas Family Court just days before surrendering his license to practice law in Ohio.

According to court records. Stone was representing a Marion area man in a lengthy divorce and custody battle.

Stone had filed for a continuance on a hearing previously set for September 15, 2022.

In support of his motion to file the continuance, Stone told the court that he had a meeting with the Cuyahoga County Department of Health and Human Services to attend a safety plan/shelter care meeting concerning one of his children.

Stone provided a copy of correspondence from Cuyahoga County in support of the motion for the continuance.

Upon receipt of the correspondence, the court was suspect and inquired of the Cuyahoga county representative that appeared to author the correspondence, who denied any knowledge of the same.

According to court documents: “Adam Stone appeared at the show of cause hearing and stated he did attend the meeting indicated in the correspondence. He denied any knowledge of why the caseworker did not support his position. Since the matter was scheduled for hearing Adam Stone has withdrawn from further representation of his client in the Proceedings due to his submission of his law license to the Supreme Court Office of Disciplinary Council and his resignation from further practice of law.”

Since Stone surrendered his law license in October, the court did not pursue contempt action.

Stone surrendered his law license after a complaint was filed against him with the Ohio Board of Disciplinary Conduct. Stone was accused of fraud and deception by Dan and Mindy Straker.

The Ohio Disciplinary Council has not yet released their findings on Stone’s pending resignation and possible disciplinary action.
