BUCYRUS—Bucyrus will usher in the 2022 holiday season on Friday when the jolly old elf himself rolls into town.

The annual Santa Parade will step off at 6 p.m. Friday from City Hall and make its way down Sandusky Avenue for the traditional holiday event, which is co-sponsored by the Bucyrus Kiwanis and Bucyrus Rotary clubs.

“It’s great that we’re able to put this event on for the kids and it’s because of all our volunteers that we are able to make this happen every year,” said Dane Kennedy, Kiwanis Club president.

About 25 units will take part in this year’s parade, Kennedy said, including marching bands, floats, and “royalty.” Santa Claus himself will bring up the rear, waving to children and parade-goers from his perch on top of a city firetruck.

The parade will wrap up around West Mary Street and drop off Santa so he can make his way to the Santa House and listen to children’s Christmas wishes. He had to relocate to the Bucyrus Public Library the last two years due to COVID, Kennedy said.

Although it costs money to put on the community event, Kennedy said fund-raisers held by both clubs throughout the year help offset parade expenses and pay for work done maintaining the Santa House.
