CRESTLINE –A Crestline business specializing in motorcycle maintenance and moving services is now operating at a new location.
Twisted Phoenix Custom Motorcycles LLC, 707 W. Main St., does repairs on Harley-Davidson motorcycles and other bikes.
But the body shop is also an authorized U-Haul dealer, renting do-it-yourself moving equipment to area residents.
“Anything you can have done to your bike, we can make it happen,” said Twisted Phoenix owner, 50-year-old Scott Skaggs. “We work on all bikes, but our expertise is on the Harley.”
Skaggs, who opened Twisted Phoenix in February 2021, signed on as a U-Haul dealer and vendor in June of that year. In addition to U-Haul trucks, the shop offers trailer rentals, towing equipment, moving supplies, and storage boxes for in-store pick-up.
But Skaggs, a Harley aficionado, is more passionate about the precision work he does on the iconic bikes – tires, major engine repairs, stereo systems, and even custom one-off bike builds, which he said are “built to spec as long as they are road worthy.”
The owner of a 2009 Harley Ultra Classic Firefighter Edition, Skaggs worked for ten years as a teacher for the Ohio Department of Youth Services and also taught at Ohio Technical College in Cleveland until he was laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the love and support of his wife, Melanie, he decided to pursue a new career path – and his dream of opening his own body shop. “By the grace of God and having a wife willing to take a chance on me, we’re just living the dream here,” he said.
The business, originally located at 930 East Main Street, recently moved to a 3,000-square-foot building down the road. “We treat everybody’s motorcycle like our own,” Skaggs said. “If I wouldn’t ride it, we wouldn’t expect you to either.”
His son, Timothy Skaggs, 21, also works at Twisted Phoenix, along with mechanic Jonathan Hatfield. “We’re staying busy. God’s blessed us with work, and we have work every day,” Skaggs said.
“I’m thankful. I’m thankful for what God provided me with.”
