When you become a senior citizen it opens up numerous perks including Friday’s Perk with Burke at Bucyrus’ Secondary School.
Starting at 11:15 a.m. Friday morning, the Bucyrus City Schools, along with Dr. Mark Burke, the Girls Boosters, and Bucyrus City Schools Food Service hosted the Perk with Burke Community Luncheon for Senior Citizens. The function died out a couple years ago until Dr. Burke brought it back. Becoming more popular each year since its return approximately 30 Senior Citizens signed up this year.
Head of the Girls Boosters Club, Beth Constantine, welcomed everyone into the lunch.
“Girls Boosters, which is an Honor Service Organization here at the High School, has worked closely with Dr. Burke to provide this free community luncheon for our area Senior Citizens and invite them in and see what great things are happening in our school,” Constantine said.
The lunch provided was a meal of ham and turkey with all the trimmings.
While eating guests were treated to live performances from Vocal Motion and the Bucyrus Players.
Senior citizen Becky Stauffer attended the event and enjoyed the performances.
“I think the kids worked very hard, you can tell just by the way they act and everything that they are doing a great job and Mrs. French does a wonderful job with their voices and I thoroughly enjoy it, I really do,” Stauffer said.
The event is one way to celebrate to celebrate the holiday season with everyone. Dr. Burke said he would like to see the auditorium filled next year. Anyone interested should sign up through the Access Channel or the Girls Boosters.
