Two Crawford County basketball players who earned first team all-Ohio honors have made their respective college choices.
Colonel Crawford guard Mason Studer has decided to attend Ohio Northern University while Buckeye Central’s Emily Siesel will continue her education and basketball career at Bowling Green State University.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for all the blessings I have received throughout my life,” Studer wrote. Both student-athletes made their announcements via social media.
Studer thanked his family “for always being there and supporting me” and his “”teammates and coaches that I have played with and for over the years.”
The 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 18 points and almost six assists for coach David Sheldon’s team that went 26-1, bowing out in the Division III regional final game to Ottawa-Glandorf 51-44.
“Through an extreme amount of consideration, I have decided to continue my education and basketball career at Ohio Northern University,” Studer said.
Studer recently was named Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year. He also was named the Northern 10 Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Siesel and her Buckette teammates went on a magical ride that ended with a state tournament appearance. The team went 26-2 (14-0 in the N10) and won district and regional titles before losing in the Division IV state semi-finals to eventual champion Waterford 53-39.
Siesel, a 5-foot-6 guard, also thanked those around her for her success.
“To my teammates and coaches at Buckeye Central, the memories we shared will forever be engrained in my heart. It was a sweet ride that none of us will ever forget,” she said.
She averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 assists and 6.4 steals per game for coach Abram Kaple.
“To coach Kaple, you are the best role model a player could ask for. Thanks for making me a better player and a better person. Beyond excited to play for coach (Robyn) Fralick as a member of the BGSU women’s basketball team.”
Siesel became the school’s seventh 1,000-point scorer in the second half of the regional championship victory over Dalton. She was voted the Northwest District Player of the Year.
Both Studer and Siesel played in the OHSCBA all-star games recently at Olentangy High School.
