The Colonel Crawford school board avoided the Black Friday rush on Monday and did a little early Christmas shopping at its monthly meeting.
The board moved ahead with plans for a new heating and air conditioning system and upgrades to lighting in the William and Hannah Crawford school building. Colonel Crawford Superintendent Todd Martin detailed the $800,000 project he says will come close to paying for itself.
“This evening we had five resolutions, four of those resolutions dealt with our House Bill 264 project in which we are going to redo a lot of our mechanical systems in the K through 8 building. We are working with a group called Brewer Garrett. The OFCC have come in and they have rubber stamped it,” Martin said. “We’re proceeding now with over an $800,000 project which will replace the boilers, will replace the control system for heating and cooling, lighting upgrades and like I said 14-, 15-year payback. The energy savings will darn near pay.”
The board also agreed to purchase 30 new laptop computers in a partnership for a computer lab with the district’s PTO. The laptops will be used for state-required testing and the goal is to have them in time for the next round of state tests in the spring.
Board member Margie Hoyles offered congratulations for the new members of the Colonel Crawford chapter of the National Honor Society and those who participated in and were responsible for the recent production of the school play.
