Galion police tag-teamed with deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office early Sunday evening to solve a vehicular “whodunit.”

Deputies responded to a call just after 6 o’clock Sunday evening about an accident on Middletown Road east of Ohio 598. When first responders arrived there was no vehicle or driver, but there was damage to private property and vehicle debris. The Galion Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck with damage to the front end.

Deputies then met with the driver, 49-year-old Tyrone Nickelson of Bucyrus. Deputies determined Nickelson was impaired and cited him for OVI refusal, failure to control and open container in a motor vehicle.

Nickelson reported no injures to law enforcement but was eventually taken to Galion Community Hospital where he was treated and released. His vehicle was towed and the accident remains under investigation.
