MARION—The Marion City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2:58 am on Saturday. When personnel arrived at the 490 block of Patterson St., the vacant home was fully engulfed in flames. It took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Firefighters faced windchills of -15 degrees as the water froze, causing fire hoses to stick to the ground.

According to a Fire Department statement issued on Facebook, the process to contain the fire was complicated due to the collapse of the first and second stories inside the home, making interior operations impossible due to the risk of further collapse. The home was declared a total loss.

This fire has been classified as suspicious in nature. The Marion Fire Department asks anyone with information about this fire to call 740-382-0040. Callers may remain anonymous.
