CRESTLINE—Michael Benedict of Carey is not expected to recover after three assailants beat him into unconsciousness and beyond. The assault was the aftermath of a confrontation in a Crestline bar.

Jaqueline Montgomery, her husband Timothy Montgomery, and Cameron Davis, all of Crestline, were arraigned in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on felonious assault charges of the second degree, punishable with up to 8 years in prison.

Sherry Denue, a cousin to Benedict, tells Crawford County Now: “He’s on hospice. Slowly declining but declining nonetheless. He’s a fighter, a warrior, and he will let go when he knows he cannot fight anymore.”

As the family holds vigil at Mikey’s bedside, Denue is asking all of Crawford County and surrounding communities to turn on their porch lights from 6-9 pm on Friday, November 5th. The family would be greatly encouraged if people would post pictures of their lit porch lights or any lights of support to their Facebook page “JUSTICE FOR MIKEY”… now a public page on Facebook.

There will be a chili lunch/dinner benefit at the VFW Post 1078 (rear building) on November 12th, beginning at 11 am. The meal includes a choice of chili, potato, or chicken noodle soup, bread, drink, and dessert.

Diners will be entered for a door prize drawing. There will also be other door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Lunch and dinner is available. You can pick up food or dine in. All proceeds will benefit Mikey’s medical expenses.
