BUCYRUS—On Tuesday evening, Bucyrus’ Altrusa chapter held another successful fundraising event.

According to the official Altrusa website, Altrusa is an international volunteer service organization of business and professional leaders – classified by occupation – dedicated to improving their communities.

The Bucyrus chapter of Altrusa, chartered in 1979, has been doing multiple projects each year to raise money to give back to the community, with the latest being a purse bingo event held at Pickwick in the loft.

The sold-out event, which raised five thousand dollars, featured a baked potato bar catered by Katering Kountry Style, a raffle, many rounds of bingo, a costume contest, and a few other games throughout the night.

Throughout the years, different projects Altrusa has done include fingerprinting every kindergarten child in the chapter’s early years, carpeting the stage in the Youth Building at the fairgrounds, paying for the electricity for the murals in town, donating one thousand dollars for the K9 at the police department, donating money for scholarships, handing out books at Spooktacular, donating to the Bucyrus Backpack Program, and many others.

Other notable fundraising events held by the Bucyrus Altrusa chapter include a BBQ chicken dinner drive-through, pumpkin roll sales, and poinsettia sales.

Anyone who would like to join can contact a member through the chapter’s Facebook page. All that is required is that members join one meeting a month, either in the evening on the second Monday of the month or the fourth Tuesday of the month for lunch at the Pelican Coffee House.
