MANSFIELD— The Mansfield City Police responded to a 911 call from a Scholl Road resident who reported their 74-year-old female neighbor had shown up at their home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Mansfield Police and Fire/EMS Workers showed up at the residence and contacted the 74-year-old female victim. She told officers she fled her home after she’d been shot several times by her 64-year-old husband.

Officers then went to the victim’s home to contact her husband without success. A perimeter was set up around the home, and neighbors were evacuated for safety. The Crisis Negotiation Team tried to coax the man out of the house using a PA system with no success.

Officers never made contact and eventually entered the home. The victim’s husband was found dead inside.

The incident remains under investigation. The victim was alert and speaking with personnel at the emergency room. Her injuries are not life-threatening.
