BUCYRUS—Amber Foreman of Bucyrus appeared in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Friday to be indicted on felony charges of assault.
Foreman was convicted of domestic violence in Crawford County Municipal Court in July. She was sentenced to 90 days in jail which was suspended. She was placed on two years of community control, and a protective order for the victim was put in place. She was to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim, who is a partner to the father of Foreman’s child.
According to Prosecutor Matt Crall, Foreman was sitting on a bench outside of Dollar General when the victim pulled into the store. The victim called police, who responded, telling Foreman that she needed to leave the area. A frustrated Foreman told police she was there first and therefore the victim should have to leave.
Foreman became combative with police who suspected an impairment of some kind. Police attempted to arrest her, and she resisted arrest. She bit one of the policemen.
She is charged with one count of assault, a felony of the fourth degree punishable with up to 18 months in prison, violating a protection order, a first-degree misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a first-degree misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia (a pipe).
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Foreman’s behalf and appointed attorney Brian Gernert to represent her.
Prosecutor Crall told the court that he believed a $5000 cash bond would be necessary.
Attorney Gernert explained to the court that Foreman suffers from mental health problems and she hadn’t been taking her medication.
He asked the court for a personal recognizance bond so she could resume counseling and get back on her medication. He said the victim used the protection order to harass his client.
Judge Leuthold expressed concern for Foreman’s well-being.
“When I see someone with mental health issues not taking their medication and possibly doing drugs, I am very concerned. I am going to set this for a hearing on Monday. In the meantime, I don’t feel good leaving her unsupervised out in the community. I am setting bond at $10,000. I want a mental health evaluation for Ms. Foreman. I may reassess bond on Monday. We want to get her on a good mental Heath path,” Leuthold said.
