Phyllis Jean Hieber, 84 of Beaufort, SC and formerly of Bucyrus passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in Beaufort following a brief illness. Phyllis was born September 2, 1936, in Sycamore, OH to the late Walter and Fay (Whitmeyer) Gearhart. She was married 65 years to Arthur L. Hieber who survives. She was also preceded in death by sister Barbara Kocher and brother Jerry Gearhart.

Phyllis is also survived by children Roger (Cheryl) Hieber of Mansfield; Linda (John) Payne of Clayton NC; Debbie (Ed) Vernoy of Beaufort SC; Cheryl (Nelson) Clugston of Richmond VA and Mark (Sherri) Hieber of Fredericktown OH; grandchildren Lyle Hieber, Christine Drake, Jared Vernoy, James Vernoy, Jason Vernoy, Jeanah Vernoy, Janelle Farmer, John Mark Vernoy, Lauren Clugston, Lane Clugston, Jessica Parker, Matthew Hieber; 16 great-grandchildren; brother James (Peggy) Gearhart of Sycamore OH and sisters Norma Schifer of Bucyrus OH and Judy Rinehart of Nevada OH.

Phyllis worked for many years at Colonel Crawford High School as a cook. She was a member of Whetstone Baptist Church while living in Bucyrus. She and Arthur were founding members of the Crawford Antique Farm Machinery Association and Phyllis dedicated many hours of service to managing and running the ice cream truck. Phyllis’ favorite pastime was sewing. She had her own Etsy shop (GrandmaSewNice) which received all 5-star ratings from completely satisfied customers.

Due to circumstances surrounding the COVID Pandemic, the family will be holding private graveside services at Lust Cemetery near Chatfield.  The family suggests that sympathy cards can be sent to Arthur at 18 Chesterfield Lake Dr., Beaufort, SC 29906. The Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
