MARION – Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Thursday evening, at approximately 5:43 PM on State Route 4 near milepost 16 in Grand Prairie Township, Marion County.

The crash involved a 2015 Honda Civic, driven by Tyler McDaniel, age 24, of Marion, and a 2004 Suzuki VL800 motorcycle, driven by John Cantrell, age 59, of LaRue.  Mr. McDaniel and Mr. Cantrell were both northbound on State Route 4.  Mr. Cantrell began to slow down and was struck in the rear by Mr. McDaniel.

Mr. Cantrell was transported from the scene by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital.  He was later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with severe injuries.  Mr. McDaniel was not injured as a result of the crash.  Mr. Cantrell was not wearing a helmet.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Marion Township Fire and EMS, and Kirby’s Towing Service.

Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating a second serious injury crash that occurred Thursday evening, at approximately 7:07 PM on State Route 529 near milepost 2 in Marion Township, Marion County.

The crash involved a 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by a 17-year-old juvenile of Marion, and a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Roland Ridgeway, age 56, of Marion.  Mr. Ridgeway was northbound on State Route 529.  The Ford was southbound on State Route 529 and failed to yield while turning left into a private driveway and struck Mr. Ridgeway.

Mr. Ridgeway was transported from the scene by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital.  He was later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio with severe injuries.  The juvenile involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was not transported from the scene.  Mr. Ridgeway was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Marion Township Fire and EMS, and Buckeye Collision Towing Service.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
