It would seem this is the season for scammers.
The Better Business Bureau is warning senior citizens of a scam circulating through Northwest Ohio that originates in Jamaica. Citizens are getting calls claiming they have won large sums of money and demanding a cash payment in order to receive the prize. Some of the calls have become threatening.
Citizens should hang up immediately if they receive such a call and not give out any personal information.
Also the Upper Sandusky Police Department has reported that someone identifying themselves as an AEP representative is calling and demanding payment to avoid a service shutoff.
If you receive such a call, hang up and contact AEP yourself regarding your account.
