Children in grades K-6 from low-income families can get free school supplies, play games for prizes and visit an Info Fair at the sixth annual Back-To-School Supply Carnival from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at Bucyrus United Methodist Church’s Outreach Center, 216 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus.
Last year’s event surpassed the organizers’ expectations and resources. “This year, we are forced to curtail the geographical area we can serve to public, parochial and home school students who live west of State Route 602 or in the village of North Robinson,” said Chairperson Randy Garrett.
The school supplies include basic items from classroom lists. All children are welcome to the carnival; however they must be accompanied by an adult to receive their free supplies.
Parents can also get free school clothing for their kids from God’s Open Clothing Closet, inside the Outreach Center.
People of all ages can enjoy the carnival, which features free games and prizes, refreshments, a puppet show, music by Sonix Sounds DJ Services and an Info Fair. The Crawford County Arts Council, with Bob and Sandy Laipply, are sponsoring a Face Painting booth. The Info Fair includes organizations and agencies with information and goodies to share with the families.
Carnival activities will be in the parking lot and on the lawn of the Outreach Center. In the event of rain, they will move inside. The Outreach Center is located at the point of Hopley, Walnut and Woodlawn, across from the Swifty gas station and next to the Bucyrus Elementary School.
Funds to buy the school supplies are donated by the Bucyrus UMC congregation. The supplies are purchased locally. The carnival is sponsored by the church’s Missions & Outreach Committee and staffed by volunteers from the church and community at large.
