Edwin D. and his wife Vivian “Chris” Foght passed away due to illnesses related to COVID-19, Chris on the 28th of December at OSU Hospital, and Ed on the 3rd of January at Bucyrus Community Hospital. Ed and Chris were married June 10, 1972. Survivors include three sons Barry (Annette) Foght of Perrysburg, Jarred (Teresa) Foght of Sulphur Springs, and Eric (Samantha) Foght of Brokensword as well as grandchildren Caitlyn, Ashlyn, Garrett, Ethan, Jonah, and Hadleigh.
Chris was born October 22, 1951, in Bucyrus to the late Thurman W. and Vivian Marie (Rush) Painter. She is survived by one brother Scott (Janet) Painter of Bucyrus. Chris graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1970 and had worked at various places over the years including for Bill Bursby and at the Duke and Duchess and Gary’s Corner. Chris was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, ceramics, and quilting. She possessed a beautiful singing voice, enjoyed volunteering where needed, and enjoyed her sons and their children. Those who knew Christy knew she loved to laugh.
Edwin was born October 14, 1953, in Bucyrus to the late Ned Foght and Iona (Patten) Foght who survives in Bucyrus. He is also survived by brother N. Mike (Brenda) Foght of rural Bucyrus; sisters, Peggy Ann (Roger) Hammer of Ft. Myers, FL, and Patty Foght Seigneur (Jude Kepler) of Lewis Center, and his pet dog “Blue”.
Ed graduated from Col. Crawford High School in 1972 where he played football until a knee injury. He retired from the Timken Company and most recently he worked with the Council on Aging for Meals on Wheels, both in the kitchen and delivery. Ed lived to help others and was very active throughout his life. He cared for his ailing wife for the past few years, along with doing house cleaning, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, and cooking the family dinners on the Holidays. He babysat his grandchildren and wrapped their gifts, attended the kids sporting events, and enjoyed going with his son Eric to Norwalk Raceway.
Ed also took time to visit his mother often, taking her to Community Christian Church on Sunday’s, where he was a Deacon, and following church always wound her mantel clock. Ed mowed his, and his mother’s grass in the summer and cleared snow in the winter for many in the neighborhood. He was a good repairman and fixed many things at his home and his mother’s. Ed heated their home with a pellet stove to keep it warm and cozy.
For over 40 years Ed was a member of the Liberty Twp. Fire Dept. and was an EMT, first working for Byrd Ambulance in Bucyrus.
A Memorial will be held for Ed and Chris at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to the Cr. Co. Humane Society, the Council on Aging, or the Liberty Twp. Fire Department.
