Elizabeth “Liz” Ruth Freeman went to her heavenly home January 2, 2021, at Altercare comforted by her daughter and granddaughter while listening to Elvis.
Liz was born May 27, 1939, in Bucyrus, Ohio to Orville and Shirley Smith (Cole).
On October 21, 1957, Liz married Willis Payton Freeman. They had 3 children together. Rebecca Dee Freeman, Willis Overton Freeman, and Jeffrey Howard Freeman who all survive.
Liz is also survived by many grandchildren. Josh (Angel Goin) Freeman, beloved granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Freeman (Tyler Lewis), Tony Myers (Brandy), Jeremy Freeman, and David Clary. There were also several great-grandchildren fortunate enough to have Liz as a great-granny: Zack Freeman, Payton Lewis, Conner and Dillon Myers, and Alexis Clary. She is also survived by her 2 brothers Christian Striker and Denny Striker. She was preceded in death by one brother, Raleigh Striker. Liz is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Liz never met a stranger and was well known for loving the in-laws and the outlaws. Liz enjoyed spending time with her family and could often be found out gallivanting or piddypotting around with Becky and Sara. She also enjoyed playing Uno and catch with her little buddy Payton. She enjoyed many a good talks with Zack. She also avidly did the crossword puzzle in the Bucyrus Telegraph-Forum. Growing roses and other flowers was another talent Liz possessed. The only enemy Liz ever knew were the squirrels that would dig her tulip bulbs out and “laugh at her” after dragging them into the street.
Liz was a hardworking wife and mother. She also worked at ITT North until they closed which gave her the opportunity to pursue her dream of being a nurse. After graduating from nursing school Liz worked most of her career as a nurse at Altercare until retiring (twice).
Mount Zion United Methodist was Liz’s church for 13 years. She enjoyed attending Bible study and could often be found helping in the kitchen during Vacation Bible School. Liz was an incredibly special woman that will be missed by so very many. She will leave a legacy of love and compassion that touched everyone she met.
