Evelyn Ekleberry, 85, of Bucyrus and a former longtime resident of Galion, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
She was born August 21, 1935 in Crawford County to the late Eugene and Bernice (Cotsamire) Hurrell. Evelyn grew up in the New Winchester area and was a 1955 graduate of Whetstone High School. On October 11, 1958, she married Donald B. Ekleberry and they made Galion their home until his passing on February 15, 2017.
Evelyn cared for her family as a homemaker and with Don being a truck driver and often gone most of the week, she prided herself in running a tight ship. She saw to it that things were always picked up and her attention to detail was second to no one.
As Evelyn’s children grew and grandchildren came along, they became her pride and joy. She loved having them over and created many memories through their trips all over Galion. In Don’s retired years, they shared many lunches at Wendy’s and in the evening, Taylor’s was their choice for a home cooked meal. She and Don also looked forward to their weekend dinner with close friends.
She formerly attended First United Church of Christ and had volunteered at Galion Hospital through the Women’s Auxiliary.
Evelyn is survived by daughters, Terri Ekleberry of Bucyrus and Jill (Todd) Lusk of Nevada; grandchildren, Riley Lusk and Clay Lusk as well as a brother, Junior (Verna) Hurrell of Bucyrus.
Her family will celebrate her life privately at Wise Funeral Service and she will be laid to rest in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Donations can be made payable to Richland Newhope Industries (RNI) and will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
