Wendell L. Layton, 78, of Galion passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at Dublin Methodist Hospital.

 

Born December 12, 1942 in Tunnelton, West Virginia, he was the son of Bradley A. and Violet E. (Wolfe) Layton.

 

He was a graduate of Tunnelton High School in 1962 and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Galion. Wendell moved from Tunnelton to Galion in 1962 where he worked at the former Westinghouse and North Electric Companies. Wendell went to work with GCS Air Services, Inc. in 1975 and served as vice president of operations until his retirement.

 

He was a good-hearted person with a loving personality. Wendell had a love of trains, enjoyed reading and would look forward to that good afternoon nap.

 

He is survived by son Brian (Tonya) Layton of Galion; granddaughter Jessica (Tyler) Phillips; grandsons Seth and Travis Layton; step-grandson Randall Ekhert; step-granddaughter Emily Icarno; brother Richard A. (Jill) Layton of Mansfield; sisters Wanda Layton and Sandra Bowmar all of Tunnelton, West Virginia and several nieces and nephews, with a special nephew Gary and Zoa Criss of Galion.

 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Gracie Criss and brother-in-law Ralph Criss, brother and sister-in-law, Karl (Marilyn) Layton and brother-in-law Junior Bowmar.

 

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Blooming Grove Cemetery with Rev. Ash Welch officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
