Edgar Koehl III, 75, of Galion passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Mill Creek Nursing Home.
Edgar was born on December 12, 1944 to the late Edgar Jr. and Jean (Reed) Koehl. He married Susan (Westendorf) Koehl on June 13, 1981 and she survives in Galion.
As a captain in the United States Air Force, Edgar served as an instructor pilot. He would later transfer to the Ohio Air National Guard, were he served as an F-100 pilot. During his extended military career, he was able to boast that he broke the sound barrier.
Edgar was the owner and publisher of the Galion Inquirer for many years prior to his retirement. Since July of 1993, Edgar was an active member of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program. He also was a member of the Galion Country Club, where he shot and was proud of the several hole-in-ones that he accomplished at the course, two of which came on hole 11 and hole 3.
In addition to his wife, Edgar is survived by his sisters; Karen Hunt of Epsom, New Hampshire and Mary (Richard) Dyer of Winthrop, Maine, his nieces and nephew; Maryjean (Travis) Emmerson, Reed (Joanna Payne) Dyer and Katie (Jean Avebe) Dyer, his great-nephews; James Avebe and Chase Dyer-Payne, his great-nieces; Maddie and Arabella Emmerson, and Estelle Avebe.
A graveside service will be observed on Monday, December 14th at 11:00am at Fairview Cemetery, where full military honors will be rendered.
