Richard C. “The Old Country Boy” Johnson, 87, of Galion went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Mountain Crest Nursing & Behavior in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had been a resident at Galion Pointe.

 

He was born January 23, 1933 in Morrow County, Ohio and was the son of Otto C. and Helen Blanche (Bishop) Johnson. Dick married Susan (Miller) Johnson on February 5, 1982 and they were married 37 years until her passing on March 1, 2019.

 

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Richard obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Theology and was a member of the Diamond Hill Cathedral in Mansfield and the AMVETS Post 1979 of Galion, where he was Chaplain for a while. Dick retired from the City of Galion after 10 years as a meter reader in 1995. He was a disc jockey for over 15 years at WXML Christian Radio in Upper Sandusky where he was on the Board of Directors. Dick also was a custodian and maintenance man at the Galion Golden Age Club.

 

He is survived by sons Steven Johnson of Marysville, Philip Johnson of Galion and Edward Johnson of Bucyrus; step-sons Larry (Phyllis) Windbigler of Sharpsburg, Kentucky, Michael (Janice) Windbigler and Timothy (Robin) Windbigler all of Galion; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren and three great great great grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a granddaughter; great great grandson; four brothers and a sister.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
