The Bucyrus City Council Finance and Health and Safety Committees held their regular meetings on Thursday afternoon in council chambers.
The finance committee began their scheduled meeting with a few different appropriations that needed to be brought forth. The first was for funds to be given to the K9 Program of the Bucyrus Police Department and second was sent toward Parks and Recreation to be used on maintenance for the Friendship Bridge at Aumiller Park.
In the past few months, there has been many discussions among the council in regards to the best way to handle manpower, and the topic was approached again as the committee discussed ways to best handle and pay for issues of overtime for positions that require the individual to regularly be on call. Eventually, it was determined that the legislation concerning overtime should be brought back in front of the entire council for a second reading.
Next, the health and safety committee met to discuss issues concerning how best to handle the traffic during the Bratwurst Festival. Ultimately, it was decided that the same action taken last year would be repeated in that the city will be responsible for its own signage to direct traffic, provided that ODOT gives the necessary permission.
Finally, by way of clearing the space that surrounds the old downtown Bucyrus Theatre as it is being cleared, the south Century Link Stage will be moved to West Rensselaer Street.
As a reminder, the Service Committee has postponed their July 1st meeting until further notice.
