The Crawford Park District will be welcoming Dr. Bob Klips, a pollination biologist at Ohio State University Marion, to a special program on pollinators and their flowers. On this hike Dr. Klips will demonstrate flower structure and distinguish between the major groups of pollinators.
This hike is timed to occur during milkweed flowering season. In addition to being the host plant for everyone’s favorite butterfly – the monarch – milkweeds have an amazingly intricate way of being pollinated. Using hand lenses and a dissecting microscope, Dr. Klips will demonstrate the details of milkweed pollination.
The program will take place at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, July 13 at Daughmer Savannah. Participants should meet in the Daughmer Savannah parking lot at 786 Marion-Melmore Rd. just north of SR 294.
