BUCYRUS—Bucyrus firefighters were busy over the weekend with two different incidents, including a house fire on Failor Avenue.

According to Captain Ryan Sparks of the Bucyrus Fire Department, firefighters were called to 420 Failor Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. They worked to put out a fire that appears to have started near the garage area of the two-story home until around 9 p.m.

Sparks said the cause of the fire is still being investigated although it does not appear to be suspicious.

“There is about $20,000 worth of damage to the house. The house was not occupied at the time of the fire but someone had been there earlier in the day to mow the lawn,” said Sparks.

Bucyrus Police and Portsmouth Ambulance were also at the scene. No injuries were reported.

On Sunday morning, Sparks said firefighters were at the city garage on Isaac-Beal Road putting fuel in the fire trucks when they received a call regarding an explosion at Eagle Crusher on East Southern Avenue.

“We were right around the corner and did not hear an explosion but were at the scene within minutes. It turned out to be off-gassing from an oxygen tank and not an explosion,” said Sparks.

No one was injured in that incident either.
