BUCYRUS—The Bucyrus City Council has a new member.

After Candy Yocum resigned from the council several weeks ago, the search was on by the Democratic Central Committee to choose a replacement to fulfill the term. Applications were taken and C. Aaron Sharrock was chosen to complete Yocum’s position as the Ward Two councilmember.

“Only two of us were eligible to vote since we are the only two central committee members who reside in the city. Since Aaron is my daughter, I, of course, abstained so the only vote was from Pat Hargis,” said Wanda Sharrock who once served on the council for many years.

While Aaron said she was sad to see Yocum resign from council, she is happy to step into the role.

“Honestly, I have spent my life paying attention to the local politics and the needs of our community. When I heard that the position opened, I was actually saddened because I know that Candy Yocum really has a lot of great ideas for our community,” said Aaron. “When I realized her position needed to be filled, I decided that I would apply. I felt like I now needed to step up and see what I could do to help our community be a place where people want to stay and raise their families.”

Council president Kurt Fankhauser is excited to welcome Aaron to the council.

“I have known Aaron for many years and I am glad to see her join council. I am very hopeful that she will turn out to be a great council member like her mother, Wanda, was for many years,” said Fankhauser.

Aaron will be sworn in as a council member within the next week before the next council meeting that is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
