Richard L. Kent, 86, of Galion passed away after a short illness on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Avita Galion Hospital.

He was born September 8, 1933 in Freeport, Ohio and was the son of LeRoy S. and Rena (Cummins) Kent. Richard married Nancy (Bowman) Kent on January 22, 1953 and she preceded him after 66 years of marriage on April 9, 2019.

Richard graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1952 and continued his education at Ashland University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He later attended Indiana University where he received his Master’s Degree in guidance counseling. He spent 38 years in education where he wore many hats as a teacher, coach, administrator, athletic director, high school guidance counselor and drivers education instructor. He spent 35 years with the Galion City Schools retiring in 1995.

Richard was a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Galion and currently attended Grace Point in Galion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and just being outside. Richard also had an appreciation for music, singing in the church choir, in a barbershop chorus and appearing in several productions of the Galion Community Theatre, after his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren events.

He is survived by his children, Richard A. (Roberta) Kent of Galion, Robert (Sandy) Kent of Philo, Ohio, Russell Kent of Galion, Lucinda “Cindy” (Jerry) Voss of Galion and Jennifer (Dirk) Eachus of Galion; nine grandchildren, Dustin (Michelle) Kent, Eric (Mandy) Kent, Kristi Kent, Josh (Raeciel) Kent, Jessica Kent, Lindy (Dustin) Edgell, Casey Voss, Nicholas Eachus and Nathaniel Eachus; eight great-grandchildren, Cali, Lexi, Cooper, Carly, Colby, Elijah, Danny and Lucy; brother Larry Kent of Dearborn Heights, Michigan and his two cats, Smokey “Beefberger” and Tigger.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Wayne “Bud” Kent.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Grace Point, 683 Portland Way North, Galion, Ohio 44833. A private service will be held for the family with Rev. Paul Walter officiating.
