BUCYRUS — A local songwriter and guitarist for the band Perfectly Damaged has made the leap from penning songs to writing his first book.
Bob Davis, writing under the pen name of Bobby Bucyrus, recently self-published the first book in a series titled, “The Rockstar and the Muse.”
“I wrote a song by the same name and decided to build a storyline around that,” Davis said. “The story expanded and went into a lot of directions from there.”
He said writing a song is about capturing a moment in time.
“Writing a book, as I found out, is like stringing together a line of moments and each is significant in itself. It continues on and evolves,” Davis said.
Davis, who attended Bucyrus and Colonel Crawford schools while growing up in Bucyrus, said he wrote his first song when he was in fifth grade.
“It was a silly little song about my elementary school, Lincoln. While attending high school in Springfield my senior year, I wrote a one-act play for a contest. The rules stated that you had to have four characters in the play, so I wrote about a blue-collar man and an aristocrat woman on a cruise who get stranded on an island. The other two characters were islanders that didn’t speak English,” he said with a laugh.
The blurb for The Rockstar and the Muse says, “Who would know that a simple high school reunion could lead to the adventure of a lifetime. One where a would be rockstar could come across an ever-elusive muse.”
