GALIONꟷ Following the success of two Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio’s food drives at Bucyrus High School in the past few months, a third event is planned for Friday, May 29 in Galion.

The event will be at the Galion Middle School, 474 Portland Way, Galion, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday.

According to Virginia Hammontree of the Bucyrus Backpack Program, boxes of food were given to over 500 families at each of the first two events.

“They will be giving out boxes of food items in this round again to help families in need during the current Covid-19 pandemic,” said Hammontree.

Hammontree has said previously that all boxes will be placed in the trunk of vehicles and for people coming to the event to please be sure the trunk is empty and cleaned out.

“Should anyone be interested in making a cash donation directly to the Backpack Program to help with the growing need for the rest of this year and in preparation of next year, checks should be made payable to Bucyrus Backpack Program, LLC. Normally our mail goes to the Lincoln Administration building but during this time when the school is closed, donations can be mailed in care of Virginia Hammontree, Treasurer, 3130 Oak Drive, Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.” She said the Bucyrus Backpack Program purchases a good deal of their food from Second Harvest.
