BUCYRUS — The first weekend of the 54th Bill Rahm Invitational bowling tournament is complete, and half of the original 16-bowler field has been eliminated.

Saturday’s results created an eight-man winners’ bracket and an eight-man losers’ bracket. Both bowled again on Sunday in two sessions.

In the winners’ bracket, Joel Butt defeated Keith Hildreth, 904-834; Mike Lear rolled a 984 series to beat Mitch Long, 984-866; Brian Patrick edged Al Garvin, 951-942; and Don McGlaughlin got past Brock Lykens, 933-784.

In the losers’ bracket first session, Shawn Ridgeway threw a monster series to beat Nathan Monk, 998-853; defending champion Rick McWaters slipped past Dave Tinch, 862-833; Dave Shock defeated Chris Kuehne, Jr., 895-794; and Butch Pangallo rolled a perfect 300 game on his way to beating Chris Kuehne, Sr., 919-794.

In the second session of the losers’ bracket, McWaters beat Lykens, 963-789; Ridgeway got by Garvin, 931-863; Shock defeated Hildreth, 962-888; and Long topped Pangallo, 941-807.

Tinch, Kuehne, Sr., Kuehne, Jr., Monk, Lykens, Garvin, Hildreth and Pangallo were eliminated from the field.

The next sessions will take place Saturday and Sunday, with the results paring the field to the two finalists. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. at Suburban Lanes.
