BUCYRUS — Bucyrus Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire at 1510 Hopley Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

According to the department, the residents came home and found their garage filled with smoke. They then entered the residence to find it filled with smoke.

Firefighters found a fire in a closet in the residence’s hallway and extinguished the flame. The fire left a hole in the floor.

No residents were harmed in the fire. One dog was confirmed dead at the scene and another dog was transported from the scene after it was given oxygen.

The fire remains under investigation.

Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Services also responded to the scene. The Bucyrus Police Department assisted with traffic control.
